Michael Learned to Temporarily Join CBS’ The Young and the Restless

Emmy Award winner Michael Learned will temporarily fill in for Jeanne Cooper as Katherine Chancellor on CBS’ top-rated daytime drama, The Young and the Restless, starting on November 10, according to EW.com.


Cooper, who has played the role of Katherine Chancellor for 38 years, is taking a short leave of absence from the series. She has received the Daytime Emmy Award and eight additional nominations for the role, as well as the Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award.


Learned’s many stage credits include The Best Man, The Sisters Rosensweig, On Golden Pond, All Over, Driving Miss Daisy, Southern Comforts, and The Ride Down Mt. Morgan.


She is a four-time Emmy Award winner, having earned three awards for her role on hit series The Waltons and one for the series Nurse. Learned has previously appeared on the daytime dramas General Hospital, One Life to Live, and All My Children.


The Young and the Restless stars Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott, Peter Bergman, Michelle Stafford, Jess Walton, Debbi Morgan, Eileen Davidson, Stephen Nichols, Kristoff St. John, and Genie Francis. As previously reported, Broadway star Diana DeGarmo will join the cast later this month.
