Actress Brooke Shields has announced today that film and television commitments will prevent her from continuing with the creative process for the new musical Leap of Faith, in which she originated the role of Marva at Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre last fall.

While no specific plans for a new production have yet to be announced for the tuner, which features a score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, a recent workshop was held in New York. The Los Angeles production also starred Raul Esparza in the lead role of Reverend Jonas Nightengale.

“I’m very disappointed that I’m not able to continue my association with this project.” Shields said in a statement. “Being a part of Leap of Faith‘s world premiere was an absolutely thrilling experience. I wish the producers and creative team much success as they prepare to bring this wonderful show to New York.”

Shields is currently starring in the Broadway production of The Addams Family, which is scheduled to close on December 31. Her other Broadway credits include Cabaret, Chicago, and Wonderful Town.
