Sister Act Musical to Begin Performances at Broadway Theatre on March 24

The musical Sister Act will play the Broadway Theatre, beginning previews on March 24 before an official opening on April 20. As previously reported, four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks will direct the production. No casting has been announced.

The musical, which is based on the film of the same name, tells the story of a disco diva put into protective custody in a convent after she runs away from her gangster boyfriend.

The show features an original score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, and choreography by Anthony Van Laast.

The production will feature scenery by Klara Zieglerova, costumes by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Natasha Katz, and sound by Mick Potter. The production team will also include musical supervisor Michael Kosarin and orchestrator Doug Besterman.

Sister Act is currently running at the London Palladium, where it will close later this month. That production is directed by Peter Schneider.
