On Wednesday, October 6, the cast and creative team of the Broadway production of
The Scottsboro Boys gave members of the press a sneak peak at the show’s current incarnation. Featuring music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb with a book by David Thompson, the musical will begin its run at the
Lyceum Theater on October 7, with an official opening on October 31.
The musical explores the infamous “Scottsboro” case of the 1930’s when a group of African-American teenagers were unjustly accused of attacking two white women — and the boys’ attempts to prove their innocence.
The cast features Josh Breckenridge as Olen Montgomery, Derrick Cobey as Andy Wright, John Cullum as The Interlocutor, Colman Domingo as Mr. Bones, Jeremy Gumbs as Eugene Williams, Joshua Henry as Haywood Patterson, Rodney Hicks as Clarence Norris, Kendrick Jones as Willie Roberson, James T. Lane as Ozie Powell and Ruby Bates, Forrest McClendon as Mr. Tambo, Julius Thomas III as Roy Wright, Sharon Washington as The Lady, and Christian Dante White as Charles Weems and Victoria Price.
The production will feature set design by Beowulf Borritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Ken Billington, sound design by Peter Hylenski, orchestrations by Larry Hochman, musical arrangements by Glen Kelly, and music direction by David Loud.
