Mickey Dolenz to Play Wilbur Turnblad in U.K. Hairspray Tour

Micky Dolenz will join the U.K. tour of Hairspray, playing Wilbur Turnblad, on November 16 when the production begins its engagement at the the Dublin Grand Canal Theatre. Subsequently, the performer will play the role at select venues throughout UK and Ireland, alternating with Les Dennis.

Dolenz has previously played the role in the West End production of the show. Among his other stage credits are Aida on Broadway, as well as Pippin, Grease and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. He recently released first solo CD in over a decade, King for a Day. The performer is perhaps best known for his work with The Monkees.

Directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, Hairspray has a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman.
