Matthew Modine, Bill Pullman to Join William Hurt, Cynthia Nixon et al. in HBO’s Too Big to Fail

Matthew Modine and Bill Pullman have joined the cast of the HBO movie Too Big to Fail, according to a report on Deadline.com. As previously reported, the movie, to be directed by Curtis Hanson, is based on Andrew Ross Sorkin’s book of the same name about the recent financial crisis.

Modine will play John Thain, former chairman and CEO of Merrill Lynch who sold the company to Bank of America. Pullman will play Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JP Morgan Chase.

The cast will be led by Academy Award winner and stage veteran William Hurt as Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. It also features Paul Giamatti at Ben Bernanke, Topher Grace as Jim Wilkinson, Ed Asner as Warren Buffett, Tony Shalhoub as John Mack, James Woods as Dick Fuld, Dan Hedaya as Barney Frank, Cynthia Nixon as Michele Davis, Michael O’Keefe as Chris Flowers, Ayad Akhtar as Neel Kashkari, Kathy Baker as Wendy Paulson, Billy Crudup as Timothy Geithner, and Joey Slotnick as Dan Jester.

Modine’s stage credits include The Miracle Worker on Broadway, Matthew Modine Saves the Alpacas at the Geffen Playhouse, Resurrection Blues at The Old Vic and Finishing the Picture at the Goodman. His films include Birdy, Married to the Mob, Vision Quest, Full Metal Jacket, Gross Anatomy, and Shortcuts. He received Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations for What the Deaf Man Heard and And the Band Played On.

Pullman’s Broadway credits include Oleanna and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?. In addition, he was see off Broadway in Peter and Jerry and in Washington DC in The Subject Was Roses. Among his many films are Independence Day, Sleepless in Seattle, Ruthless People, While You Were Sleeping, Spaceballs, Bottle Shock, Noble Son, and Surveillance.
