Judi Dench, Keira Knightley, Alfred Molina, Elena Roger, et al. on Evening Standard Longlist

London’s Evening Standard has published the longlist of contenders in its annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Winners will be announced at a star-studded awards ceremony at the reopened Savoy Hotel on Sunday, November 28.

In addition to the eight regular categories — Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Play, Best Musical, Best Director, Best Design, Most Promising Playwright and Outstanding Newcomer — there are two special awards, one for outstanding contribution to theater and the Golden Seagull Award, presented by the Moscow Art Theatre, for internationally themed work.

Among the many actors on this year’s longlist are Alfred Molina, Judi Dench, Keira Knightley, David Suchet, Zoe Wanamaker, Sheridan Smith, Elena Roger, Fiona Shaw, Adrian Lester, Jonathan Pryce, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Simon Russell Beale, Gemma Arterton, Helen McCrory, Tamsin Greig, and Melanie Chisholm.

Playwrights on the list include Alan Bennett, Bryony Lavery, Bruce Norris, and Lynn Nottage; directors include Howard Davies, Michael Grandage, Nicholas Hytner, Rupert Goold, and Thea Sharrock.
