La MaMa E.T.C. will present a revival of Pass the Blutwurst, Bitte — conceived, directed and choreographed by John Kelly — in the Ellen Stewart Theatre, December 2-19.

This ensemble work for five performers employs dance combined with film, onstage drawing, and recorded and live vocal music to contemplate the nature, circumstances and process of Viennese expressionist Egon Schiele’s creative genius. The work originally premiered in 1986, winning an OBIE Award. An expanded and revised version was presented at La MaMa in 1995.

The film sections are by Anthony Chase, lighting design by Stan Pressner, and props and furniture by the late Huck Snyder.

In conjunction with the performance, La MaMa’s La Galleria will hold a solo exhibition of Kelly’s newest photographic self-portraits, Schiele-Kelly, based on the art and life of Schiele. It will be on view November 22-December 12. Admission to the gallery is free, and there will be an opening reception on Monday, November 22, at 6pm.
