Tony Award winner Garth Fagan will premiere his new work “Thanks Forty,” when Garth Fagan Dance plays the Joyce Theatre, November 9-14.

The piece, which is created in celebration of the company’s four decades of performing, is set to cello music by Shostakovich, a melodic percussion score by Angolian composer Bonga Kwenda, and Gerald Albright’s music for tenor, alto, and baritone sax.

The Joyce engagement will also include the premiere of dancer Norwood Pennwell’s “Hylozoic,” as well as such pieces as “Discipline Is Freedom,” “Woza,” “Passion Distanced,” Spring Yaounde,” and “Mudan 175/39.”

Fagan won the Tony for his choreography of The Lion King and is well known for his piece Griot New York.

The company will tour through April, making stops in such cities as Rochester, Baton Rouge, Grand Rapids, and Charlotte.
