Two-time Tony Award winner Donna Murphy will star in the new Broadway musical, The People in the Picture, to play April 1-June 29 at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre. The show, which will open officially on April 28, will be directed by Leonard Foglia.

The musical, which features book and lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart and music by Mike Stoller and Artie Butler, focuses on Bubbie, a theater star in pre-war Poland and now a grandmother in New York City who is determined to pass on her stories to the next generation.

The creative team includes Paul Gemignani (musical direction), Andy Blankenbuehler (musical staging), Riccardo Hernandez (set design), Ann Hould-Ward (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design) Dan Moses Schreier (sound design), and Elaine J. McCarthy (projection design).

Foglia’s many directorial credits include Thurgood, On Golden Pond, Wait Until Dark, and Master Class.

Murphy received Tony Awards for Passion and The King and I. Her many other stage credits include Anyone Can Whistle, Follies, Wonderful Town, LoveMusik, and Song of Singapore. She is set to participate in the upcoming New York City Opera concert, The Music of Leonard Benstein: Lucky to Be Me, and will soon be heard in the new animated film Tangled.
