Broadway’s A Free Man of Color Will Now Begin Previews October 23

John Guare’s new play, A Free Man of Color, will now begin previews on Saturday, October 23 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. The show had previously scheduled its first performance for October 21. Geroge C. Wolfe is directing the production, which will open officially on November 18.

The play is a freewheeling epic set in 1802 New Orleans, and concerns Jacques Cornet, a new-world Don Juan and the wealthiest inhabitant of this sexually charged and racially progressive city.

The company will feature, as previously announced, Tony Award winner Jeffrey Wright as Cornet, along with Mos (aka Mos Def), Yao Ababio, Peter Bartlett, Nicole Beharie, Arnie Burton, Rosal Colón, Veanne Cox, Paul Dano, Sara Gettelfinger, Derric Harris, Justina Machado, Joseph Marcell, John McMartin, Nick Mennell, Teyonah Parris, Postell Pringle, Esau Pritchett, Brian Reddy, Reg Rogers, Triney Sandoval, Robert Stanton, Wendy Rich Stetson, , Jerome Stigler, Senfaub Stoney, and David Emerson Toney.

The creative team includes David Rockwell (sets), Ann Hould-Ward (costumes), Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting), Scott Stauffer (sound), Jeanine Tesori (original music), and Hope Clarke (choreography).
