Priscilla Queen of the Desert to Open on Broadway March 6, 2011

The musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert is heading to Broadway, according to a representative from the production. The show, based on the 1994 Australian film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, has set an opening night date of March 6, 2011. A theater and casting details will be announced at a later date.

Priscilla focuses on a drag queen and her two fish-out-of-water friends who head west across the desert to Alice Springs in their battered old bus. The musical, which features classic pop and disco hits such as “I Will Survive” and “I Love the Nightlife,” originated in Sydney and is currently playing at London’s Palace Theatre. The production is directed by Simon Phillips and features choreography by Ross Coleman.

Before Broadway, Priscilla will run in Toronto at the Prince of Wales Theatre, beginning previews on October 12, 2010.
