The Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee has nominated 60 theater artists for recognition of their outstanding work in 46 productions presented during the 2008-2009 New York theater season. The awards will be presented at a luncheon to be held late this fall.

Individuals receiving multiple nominations include Tim Hatley for his scenic design, costume design, and puppetry for Shrek; David Korins for his scenic design of Stunning and Why Torture Is Wrong…; Derek McLane for his scenic design of Ruined and 33 Variations; Gregory Gale for his costume design of Rock of Ages and The Third Story; Paul Tazewell for his costumes for Guys and Dolls and Ruined; Kevin Adams for his lighting of Hair and Next to Normal; Jason Lyons for his lighting of Clay and Rock of Ages; David Weiner for his lighting of reasons to be pretty and This Beautiful City; and Jeff Sugg for his production design (with Jim Findlay) of The Success of Failure and the Failure of Success and projection design of 33 Variations.

Other notable nominees include John Lee Beatty, Beowulf Boritt, David Gallo, Neil Patel, Tony Walton, Carrie Robbins, Jane Greenwood, William Ivey Long, Martin Pakledinaz, Howell Binkley, John Gromada, and Basil Twist.

This year's committee includes theater critics Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, chair; TheaterMania's managing editor Dan Bacalzo; David Barbour; David Cote; Glenda Frank; Mario Fratti; and Joan Ungaro.
