Andre De Shields, Delroy Lindo, Tracie Thoms, Melvin Van Peebles, Ruined et al. Receive 2009 Audelco Nominations

Nominations for the 2009 Vivian Robinson/Audelco Recognition Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre have been announced. The awards will be presented at a ceremony at the HarlemStages/Aaron Davis Hall on Monday, November 16 at 7pm.

The Manhattan Theatre Club production of Ruined picked up eleven nominations, the most of any single production. In addition to a nomination for Dramatic Production of the Year, it was recognized for playwright Lynn Nottage, director Kate Whoriskey, lead actress Saidah Arrika Ekulona, supporting actor Russell G. Jones, supporting actresses Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Condola Rashad, lighting designer Peter Kaczorowski, set designer Derek McLane, costume designer Paul Tazewell, and sound designers Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen.

Notable acting nominations also included Andre De Shields (Archbishop Supreme Tartuffe), Ted Lange (Archbishop Supreme Tartuffe), Melvin Van Peebles (Unmitigated Truth), Delroy Lindo (Things of Dry Hours), John Douglas Thompson (Othello), Natalie Venetia Belcon (10 Things to Do Before I Die), Tracy Thoms (10 Things to Do Before I Die), and Trezana Beverley (King Lear). Among the directors recognized with nominations are Melvin Van Peebles (Unmitigated Truth), Alfred Preisser (Archbishop Supreme Tartuffe), Marion McClinton (Pure Confidence), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Zooman and the Sign), and Liesl Tommy (The Good Negro).
