Let’s Go To the Movies!

Gavin Creel, Baby Jane Dexter, Christine Ebersole, Florence Henderson, Andrea Marcovicci, Tony Martin, Judy McLane, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Julia Murney, Teri Ralston, Joan Rivers, and Steve Tyrell are among the stars hitting the city’s cabarets.

Don’t let the impending winter chill — or the chilly economic forecast — keep you at home, not with so many hot-hot-hot offerings at the city’s cabarets and clubs.

At The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel, the always amazing jazz vocalist Paula West (through November 8) is followed by the annual engagement of the club’s star performer, Andrea Marcovicci (November 11-December 27), who is bringing her newest show Marcovicci Sings Movies II, chock-full of tunes such as “Cheek to Cheek,” “Swinging on a Star,” “It Might Be You,” and “When She Loved Me.”

Feinstein’s at the Loews Regency continues to serve up some of the biggest names in the business, including Laura Bell Bundy (November 1), George S. Irving with special guest Dina Merrill (November 3), Florence Henderson (November 5-8), Giada Valenti (November 10), Brian Stokes Mitchell (November 11-15), Miles Phillips (November 17), and the legendary Chita Rivera (November 18-29). Meanwhile, over at the swanky Café Carlyle, the very popular Steve Tyrell returns for his now-annual holiday engagement (November 4-December 31).

Joe’s Pub continues its year-long 10th anniversary celebration with such must-see shows as Broadway Loves Joe’s Pub (November 2), Don’t Quit Your Night Job (November 3), Freestyle Love Supreme (November 3), Justin Bond (November 9, 16), Julie Foldesi (November 10), William Finn (November 11 and 17), Ute Lemper (November 14-15, 22, 28-29), and the fabulous Julia Murney (November 24).

The always exciting happenings at Birdland include performances by singer-songwriter John Bucchino (November 3), Broadway veteran Bill Nolte (November 10), jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli and the Swing Seven (November 11-15), singer Tierney Sutton (November 19-22), award-winning orchestrator and composer Jonathan Tunick (November 24), and two-time Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole with Billy Stritch (November 26-29).

The ever-eclectic Zipper Factory will showcase aerial act Above the Belt (November 2), Broadway stars Shayna Steele and Gavin Creel (November 6), Woman on the Edge (November 8), singer Leslie Henstock (November 10), Reanimated (November 10), Joe Iconis’ Things to Ruin (November 14, 22, and 28), The Peach Tartes (November 14), Becca Ayers (November 17), Todd Almond (November 24), and Jason St. Little (November 28).

The Metropolitan Room continues to impress with such cabaret favorites as Marilyn Maye (November 1-2), Wesla Whifield (November 1-2), Barb Jungr (November 3), Tony Messina (November 5-8), Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano (November 9, 16), Marcus Simeone (November 9), Corky Hale (November 10-11, 14-15), Devin Richards (November 10), Baby Jane Dexter (November 11-15, 20-22, 28-29), the new late-night event Q Talk (November 14), Teri Ralston (November 17), Klea Blackhurst and Billy Stritch (November 19-21), David Raleigh (November 23-24), and Julie Reyburn (November 25).

Elsewhere around town: the hilarious Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words continues its star-studded Monday night run at the Triad; This is Burlesque is still going strong at Corio; BB King’s hosts an all-star concert version of Jeremy Schonfeld’s Drift (November 3); and the one-and-only Joan Rivers returns to the Cutting Room (November 4, 5, 7, and 19).
