Roundabout Theatre Company opened J.T. Rogers’ powerful drama about Rwandan genocide, The Overwhelming, on October 23. The production stars Sam Robards, who received congratulations from his mother, legendary film actress Lauren Bacall.

On October 22, TCG held a book launch for The August Wilson Century Cycle at (appropriately enough) The August Wilson Theatre. Among the attendees were current Public Theater head Oskar Eustis and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tony Kushner.
Also on hand were Michele Shay (Tony nominated for Seven Guitars), Sakina Ansari (Wilson’s daughter), Phylicia Rashad (Tony nominated for Gem of the Ocean), and Constanza Romero (Wilson’s widow).
Chazz Palminteri celebrated the Broadway opening of his solo show, A Bronx Tale, on October 25. Wife Gianna and son Dante helped him mark the occasion.
The production is helmed by Broadway legend Jerry Zaks.

On Sunday, October 28, Bette Midler hosted the opening celebration for “The Friendship Garden,” a public community garden at West 150th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, which was recently adopted and refurbished by the Broadway musical Wicked.
Cast members from the hit show also performed, including the beautiful Annaleigh Ashford, who recently took over the role of Glinda.
