Nicholas Martin has been named artistic director of the Williamstown Theatre Festival, effective November 1, replacing Roger Rees, who has run the theater for the past three seasons.

Martin is currently wrapping up his final season as artistic director of Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company. He has directed numerous productions at Williamstown over the years, including The Corn is Green, Where’s Charley, Dead End, and Camino Real, and was the theater’s resident director for two years.

Martin’s Broadway credits include Match, Butley, and Hedda Gabler. He received an Obie Award for his production of Betty’s Summer Vacation and will direct the world premiere of Paul Rudnick’s The New Century at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi Newhouse Theatre in April 2008.
