The producers of the hit Broadway musical Xanadu have announced that Cheyenne Jackson will remain in the role of Sonny indefinitely, and that original star James Carpinello, who withdrew from the role in June after an on-stage rollerskating injury, will not return to the production.

Xanadu, based on the 1980 movie of the same title, has a book by Douglas Carter Beane and is directed by Christopher Ashley. The score, by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne, includes the pop hits “Magic,” “Xanadu,” “Party All Over the World,” and “I’m Alive.” It also stars Kerry Butler, Tony Roberts, Jackie Hoffman, and Mary Testa.

Jackson previously starred on Broadway in the musical All Shook Up, and also appeared in Aida and Thoroughly Modern Millie. His other credits include Altar Boyz, The Agony and the Agony, The Cartells, and Red Eye of Love.
