Bill Camp Joins Dead Man’s Cell Phone; Full Cast, Creative Team Announced for Doris to Darlene

Bill Camp will join previously announced stars Mary-Louise Parker and Kathleen Chalfant in the Playwrights Horizons’ production of Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man Cell’s Phone, to be directed by Anne Bogart.

The show, which begins previews on February 8 and opens officially on March 4. concerns a woman (Parker) who answers a ringing cell phone that belongs to Gordon (Camp), a dead man, and then gets involved with his mother (Chalfant) and his friends.

Camp is currently starring as Alceste in the New York Theatre Workshop’s production of The Misanthrope and is scheduled to appear in their upcoming production of Beckett Shorts. His Broadway credits include Coram Boy, Heartbreak House, Jackie: An American Life, The Seagull and Saint Joan.

In related news, Playwrights Horizons has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Doris to Darlene, A Cautionary Valentine, by Jordan Harrison, to be directed by Les Waters. The production will run November 16-December 23, with an opening set for December 11.

The play, which is set in three different time periods, concerns a pop singer named Darlene, the composer Richard Wagner, and a teenager who obsesses over Darlene’s music (as well as his music teacher). The cast will feature de’Adre Aziza, David Chandler, Michael Crane, Laura Heisler, Tom Nelis, and Tobias Segal. The creative team will include Takeshi Kata (scenic design), Christal Weatherly (costume design), Jane Cox (lighting design), and Darron L West (soundscape).
