Composer and author Mary Rodgers will be honored by the Music-Theatre Group (MTG) at the organization’s annual gala, to be held on Monday, October 23 at the Manhattan Penthouse (80 Fifth Avenue). The event will include a performance of songs from the revue Hey Love: The Songs of Mary Rodgers, featuring Broadway veterans Faith Prince, Jim Walton, and Donna Murphy as well as director Mark Waldrop, with music director Patrick Brady at the piano.

Rodgers is best known for the musical Once Upon a Mattress and for having written both the book Freaky Friday and the screenplay of the Disney movie version; she also wrote the score for Hot Spot and contributed songs to such other Broadway shows as From A to Z, Working, and The Madwoman of Central Park West. She is the daughter of the legendary Richard Rodgers. Her son, Adam Guettel is himself a musical theater composer and lyricist whose credits include The Light in the Piazza and Floyd Collins.

Founded in 1970 by Lyn Austin, MTG is dedicated to commissioning, developing, and producing new musical theater works. For further information on the October 23 benefit, phone Mark Runion at 212-366-5260, ext. 22 or send an email to mark@musictheatregroup.org.
