Kristin Chenoweth to Perform Solo Concert at Metropolitan Opera House

Kristin Chenoweth will perform a solo concert, Kristin Chenoweth: Live at the Met, on Friday, January 19 at 8pm. This special event at the Metropolitan Opera House will consist of Chenoweth’s signature songs, new selections, and opera arias. The star will be supported by dancers and a 12-piece orchestra.Kathleen Marshall will direct the concert, and Andrew Lippa will serve as musical director.

Chenoweth won a Tony Award for her performance as Sally in the 1999 Broadway production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and received a Tony nomination for her role of Glinda in the smash-hit musical Wicked. Beginning next month, she will star in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of The Apple Tree, recreating the roles she played in the 2005 City Center Encores! presentation of the show. Before pursuing a career in the theater, Chenoweth earned a graduate degree in opera performance from Oklahoma City University. She has performed in Candide with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall and is scheduled to sing the role of Samira in the Met’s March 2010 revival of John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles.

Marshall won Tony Awards for Best Choreography for the 2006 production of The Pajama Game and the 2003 production of Wonderful Town; she was also nominated for Best Direction of a Musical for both shows. Lippa wrote the music and lyrics for the Off-Broadway musical The Wild Party and contributed three new songs to the Broadway production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. His other shows include A Little Princess, Jerry Christmas, and john & jen.
