Hynes, Rea, Shaw, et al. Set for Princeton Symposium on Irish Theater

Award-winning actors Stephen Rea and Fiona Shaw and Tony Award-winning director Garry Hynes will be among the participants in the Players & Painted Stage Symposium on Irish Theater, to take place at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, October 13-15.

The symposium, which is free and open to the public, is being held to celebrate the donation of an expansive collection of Irish plays and memorabilia donated by alumnus Leonard L. Milberg. The exhibition of the collection will have its official opening at the University’s Firestone Library at 6pm on Friday, October 13.

Other participants in the symposium will include Emily Mann, the artistic director of the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, which will soon present Hynes’ production of Brian Friel’s Translations; Fiach Mac Conghail, director of Ireland’s Abbey Theater; Joe Dowling, former director of the Abbey and the current director of Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theatre; playwrights Mark O’Rowe and Vincent Woods; and Prinecton University faculty members Michael Cadden, Howard G.B. Clark, and Paul Muldoon.
