CAP21 to Present Carousel, Evita, et al. This Fall

CAP21 will present free readings of new plays by Mark St. Germain and Irene O’Garden. along with a two-part reading of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Carousel, this fall at its new performance space on 18 West 18th Street. All readings are scheduled to begin at 7:30pm and reservations are required.

In addition, CAP21 will present a full production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical Evita, November 2-12.

The reading series begins on Monday, October 16, when Joanna Merlin and Eliza Ventura will star in St. Germain’s My Bernhardt Summer, the tale of a young woman living on Long Island in 1917 who gets caught in a tug of war between the great actress Sarah Bernhardt and the great dancer Isadora Duncan. The playwright’s other works include The God Committee and Ears on a Beatle.

On Monday, October 23, Rebecca DuMaine will star in O’Garden’s Little Heart, based upon the life of artist Corita Kent, who gained fame in the 1960s for her seriographs. O’Garden is best known for the play Women on Fire.

On Monday, October 30, CAP21 will present the first act of Carousel; the second act will be performed on November 20. The cast includes Larry Arancio, Peter van Derek, Mary Kate Law, Susan Cameron, Martha Sullivan, Holly Davis, Austin Eyer, Kiera O’Neil, Randy Blair, Jonathan Todd Ross, Maria Brinkman, Carey McCray, Robby Eicher, Ryan Murray, Michael Miller, Nick Cianfrogna, and Chris Norwood.
