A trilogy of one-act musicals about men, women, and temptation, The Apple Tree has music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Bock, Harnick, and Jerome Coopersmith. The original Broadway production was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Barbara Harris, Alan Alda, and Larry Blyden.
The Roundabout production will feature choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Rob Fisher will be the musical supervisor. The design team includes John Lee Beatty (sets), Jess Goldstein (costumes), Donald Holder (lighting), and Dan Moses Schreier (sound). The ensemble will fature Meggie Nicole Cansler, Julie Connors, Sarah Jane Everman, Jennifer Taylor Farrell, Justin Keyes, Lorin Lataro, Mike McGowan, Sean Palmer, Dennis Stowe, and Eric Santagata.
D'Arcy James, who will play Adam, Sanjar, and Flip, has starred on Broadway in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Sweet Smell of Success, and Titanic. Kudisch, who will play The Snake, has been seen on Broadway in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Assassins, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Charles, who will play King Arik, the Employer, and the Producer, has starred on Broadway in The Woman in White, La Cage aux Folles, and Cats.
Chenoweth won a Tony Award for her performance as Sally in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and received a Tony nomination for her role of Glinda in Wicked. Among her other Broadway credits are Steel Pier and Scapin. Her extensive film and television credits include The Pink Panther, Bewitched, the soon-to-be-released Running with Scissors, and The West Wing.
