Blum, Champlin, Moye, Sullivan, et al. Set for Goodspeed’s Meet John Doe

Joel Blum, Donna Lynne Champlin, James Moye, and Patrick Ryan Sullivan will star in the Goodspeed Musicals production of Meet John Doe, to play at the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Connecticut from November 9 through December 3. The show will be directed by Michael Baron, with choreography by Karma Karp.

The musical was written by Eddie Sugarman and Andrew Gerle, with additional story by Matt August. Based on the 1941 Frank Capra movie of the same title, Meet John Doe tells the story of an ambitious Depression-era reporter who creates a hoax involving a “John Doe” and then recruits a washed-up ballpayer to play the role. The film starred Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck.

The cast of the Goodspeed production also includes Keegan Michael Brown, Guy Paul, Melanie Vaughan, David Andrew Anderson, Ronald L. Brown, Rachel Clark, Monique French, Victoria Huston-Elem, Aaron Lee Lambert, Nicole Mangi, Mark Sanders, and Jaron Vesely. The creative team includes Albin Konopka (music direction), Court Watson (sets), and Alejo Vijetti (costumes).

Blum, who will play the Colonel, received Tony Award nominations for his work in Show Boat and Steel Pier. Champlin, who will play Ann Mitchell, was last seen on Broadway in Sweeney Todd. Moye, who will play “John Doe,” has appeared on Broadway in Urinetown and The Full Monty. Sullivan, who will play DB Norton, has starred on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast and 42nd Street.
