The York Theatre has announced five of the six shows that it will present as part of this year’s Musicals in Mufti series of staged concert performances, October 21-December 18.

I Can Get It For You Wholesale, the Harold Rome-Jerome Weidman musical comedy set in the Garment District, will kick off the series October 21-23 in a production directed by Richard Sabellico. Wholesale opened on Broadway in 1962 and ran for more than 300 performances, making a star out of Barbra Streisand, who appeared in the show with future husband Elliott Gould.

Up next, October 28-30, will be the American premiere of The Great Big Radio Show!, a British musical comedy by Philip Glasborow and Nick McIvor. It will be followed by the Jeffrey Kindley-Craig Carnelia musical Is There Life After High School? Carnelia will direct the Mufti production, which is scheduled to run November 4-6.

After a one-month break, the series will recommence December 4-6 with Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi, by Jeff Hochauser and Bob Johnston, directed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett. That production will be followed by the New York premiere of Mirette (December 16-18), with a score by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt and a book by Elizabeth Diggs, based on the award-winning children’s book. The sixth show of the Mufti series is yet to be announced.
