Public Theater Featured in WNET Documentary, Will Host Under The Radar 2006

The Public Theater is the subject of a new, two-part documentary titled The Public at 50, to be aired October 21 and 28 at 9:30pm on WNET-TV, Channel 13. The film includes interviews with The Public’s current artistic director Oskar Eustis, as well as Bernard Gersten, George C. Wolfe, Anna Deavere Smith, Tony Kushner, John Guare, Sam Waterston, Donna McKechnie, Michael John LaChiusa, Roscoe Lee Browne, Frank Rich, and Gail Merrifield Papp.

In other news from the Public, the theater will host Under The Radar 2006, an international festival consisting of 14 performances by groups from 10 countries, January 19-23 at seven New York City venues. Among the festival shows to be performed at The Public are Shadows (Australia), Rehearsal.Hamlet (Brazil), Big 2nd Episode (show/business) (France/Austria), Kommer (Netherlands), My Arm (United Kingdom), and The Days of the Sledgehammer Have Gone (United Kingdom).

Additional shows to be presented Under The Radar include South African playwright Yael Farber’s Amajuba: Like Doves We Rise (at the Kumble Theater in Brooklyn) and works by American playwrights Will Power and Richard Maxwell: Power’s new hip-hop musical The Seven (at New York Theater Workshop) and Maxwell’s The End of Reality (at The Kitchen).
