Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, director Robert Wilson, and stage and screen star Lynn Redgrave are among the artists set to participate in the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s 2006 season.

Blanchett will make her American stage debut in the title role of the Sydney Theatre Company production of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, March 21-26. Directed by Robyn Nevin and adapted by Andrew Upton, Hedda will co-star Hugo Weaving (best known for The Matrix series of films), Annie Byron, Justine Clarke, Julie Hamilton, Anthony Weigh, and Aden Young. Blanchett won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator.

BAM’s celebration of Ibsen will continue with Robert Wilson’s production of Peer Gynt, April 11-16. This co-production with the National Theater of Bergen, Norway is performed in Norwegian (with English subtitles) and features a musical score by violinist Michael Galasso.

Redgrave will star as Lady Bracknell in Sir Peter Hall’s production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, April 18-May 14. Hall brought his As You Like It to BAM earlier this year, and his son Edward’s production of The Winter’s Tale will play there next month. Redgrave was most recently seen on Broadway in The Constant Wife.

Other artists who will be part of BAM’s 2006 season include choreographers Mark Morris (celebrating his 25th anniversary season) and William Forsythe. For more information, visit www.bam.org.
