Barbara Cook to Appear at NJPAC, Lincoln Center, Juilliard

Fans of the legendary Broadway star Barbara Cook will have numerous opportunities to see her in the New York metropolitan area during the coming weeks, beginning on Saturday, November 19 at 8pm, when she will join four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald for a one-night-only concert pairing at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey.

On Monday, November 28 at 5:30pm, Cook will participate in the annual Lincoln Center Holiday Tree Lighting. Other celebrities who will take part in this free event, to be hosted by WABC-TV weatherman Sam Champion, include opera singer Denyce Graves, gospel vocalist Joshua Nelson, the Klezmatics, the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus, and members of the New York City Ballet.

On Thursday, December 1 at 4pm, Cook will give a master class to six Juilliard School students at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Free tickets to this event will be available beginning November 17 at the Juilliard box office (60 Lincoln Center Plaza).

Looking towards 2006, Cook will be the first female pop singer to have a solo concert at the Metropolitan Opera House when she appears there on Thursday, January 20. And on February 24, she will participate in the American Songbook tribute to lyricist David Zippel at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

In addition, Video Artists International has released a new DVD, Barbara Cook: Bell Telephone Appearances 1960-1965, which features Cook singing material from such shows as The Music Man, Camelot, and No Strings. Earlier this fall, DRG released Cook’s latest CD Tribute, based on her recent act at the Café Carlyle. Selections include “Hurry, It’s Lovely Up Here,” “Make the Man Love Me,” and “Bojangles of Harlem.”
