A Woman of Will, the new musical co-written by and starring Amanda McBroom, will close on Sunday, October 9, having played 16 previews and nine regular performances.

The show, which features music and direction by Joel Silberman, tells the story of Kate, a songwriter facing a marital and professional crisis. In attempting to finish work on a musical version of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, she turns to the Bard’s heroines for inspiration.

In his review of the show for TheaterMania, David Finkle wrote: “McBroom may be able to write music, but she can’t speak it; there is no lilt in her voice. Her idea of acting Shakespeare is to tilt her head upward, fix a gallant expression on her handsome face, and iambic-pentameter away. It doesn’t work.”
