The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has announced establishment of The Bob Fosse-Gwen Verdon Fellowship, a permanent scholarship for deserving students to study in the professional division of The Ailey School. The fellowship has been established with the help of a major gift from the daughter of Fosse and Verdon, Nicole Fosse.

The Ailey School’s fellowship program annually provides approximately 200 scholarships to its program, which includes technique classes, performance and choreographic opportunities, and support services to prepare students for a career in dance. Judith Jamison, the organization’s artistic director, said: “It is an honor to be able pay tribute to Mr. Fosse and Ms. Verdon, two influential figures in the world of dance. This generous gift will celebrate their extraordinary legacies and their commitment to opening doors for performing artists of the future.”

Denise Jefferson, director of The Ailey School, added: “The Fosse-Verdon Scholarship will have a lasting impact on generations of talented and hardworking students, giving our youth the opportunity to receive a world-class education in our new center for dance.”
