The trend began with compilation musicals featuring the songs of ABBA (Mamma Mia!) and Queen (We Will Rock You). Then Twyla Tharp put her own special twist on the formula by using the music of Billy Joel to create the dance piece Movin’ Out. Next up is a new play that will feature acoustic guitar renditions of classic songs by Bruce Springsteen.

Like a Springsteen Song, written by Scott Brooks and presented by Badlands Theater Company, is a New York love story about George and Sara, two childhood friends who run into each other again as adults and try to renew their old friendship. Sondra Wymar and Joe Hickey will star as Sara and George, respectively, and guitarist Mark Ransom will play acoustic versions of some of The Boss’s greatest hits throughout the show.

Like a Springsteen Song will run at the Blue Heron Arts Center (123 East 24th Street) on a double bill with Is This the Line?, a play made up of four short vignettes about standing in line. The first performance is set for October 29 and the show is scheduled to open officially two days later. All tickets are $15; call 212-330-6554 for further information.
