Musical Theatre Works to Present Symposiums and Workshops in November and December

For the third time, Musical Theatre Works will present “Musical Theatre Month” — a popular series of symposiums, lectures, and workshops that bring audiences face-to-face with some of the New York theater’s most talented and respected artists.

In addition to events at its home, 440 Lafayette Street, MTW will offer three “Intimate Conversations” symposiums at the Jewish Community Center on the Upper West Side. The schedule of events is as follows:

SYMPOSIUMS

These will take place at 440 Lafayette Street, except for those that fall on Monday nights, which will be held at the JCC (334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street). Each symposium will begin at 7pm and will be about an hour and a half in length. Tickets are $25; guests are subject to change.

Wednesday, November 13: Flower Drum Song, with David Henry Hwang, Robert      Longbottom, and Ted Chapin

WORKSHOPS

Songwriters Workshop
Adam Guettel, Jeanine Tesori, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Jason Robert Brown, and Michael John LaChiusa will teach this workshop, which focuses on the art of collaboration and the business of songwriting. Informal critiques of the participants’ work will be included. Four Thursday sessions are scheduled: November 14 and 21, December 5 and 12, from 7:30 to 10:30pm. The fee is $300.00.

Singing For People Who Think They Can’t
Phil Campanella teaches this workshop. It offers a combination of relaxation and breathing techniques, vocal exercises, and a supportive environment to help participants conquer their fear of singing. There will be four Monday sessions: November 11, 18, and 25, and December 2, from 7:30 to 9:30pm. $295.00

How To Develop and Produce a Broadway Musical
Producer Marty Bell (Sweet Smell of Success, The Last 5 Years) walks participants through the process of producing a Broadway musical. Four Tuesday sessions: November 12 and 19, December 3 and 10, from 7:30 to 10:30pm. $325.00
