Those who were unable to attend the original Broadway cast reunion concert of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along that was presented by Musical Theatre Works on September 30 in the theater at LaGuardia High School — as well as those who were present — will be happy to hear that the already legendary performance was taped for MTW’s archives and could eventually turn up in the Theater on Film and Tape Collection of the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center.

According to Christine Van Kipnis, program director at Musical Theatre Works, “The show was taped for internal purposes and for the cast. But it’s a great idea to give it to [TOFT] and, hopefully, we’ll be able to do that. I haven’t even seen the tape yet; it hasn’t been edited. But we got all the rights through Actors’ Equity and the musicians’ union. Everybody was okay with our taping it for our archives.”

Almost the entire original cast of Merrily appeared in the reunion concert, led by stars Jim Walton, Ann Morrison, Lonny Price, and Jason Alexander. Click on the following links to read Peter Filichia’s report on the evening for TheaterMania and/or Michael Portantiere’s interview with Ann Morrison.
