Louis G. Spisto Appointed Executive Director of The Globe Theatres in San Diego

Louis G. Spisto has been named as the new executive director of The Globe Theatres, the acclaimed regional theater complex in San Diego that is comprised of the Old Globe Theatre, the Cassius Carter Centre Stage, and the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre and whose administrators include artistic director Jack O’Brien and director Meritus Craig Noel.

Spisto made his reputation during the 10-plus years he spent as executive director of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra; he returns to Southern California after having served as executive director of American Ballet Theatre in New York and, prior to that, as president of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

“After an exhaustive search process, I speak on behalf of the Globe’s entire Board when I say that we are thrilled to announce Lou Spisto’s appointment,” said Paul Meyer, president of the Globe’s board of directors. “Lou’s extensive experience, knowledge and prior success in Southern California and other major markets make him the ideal partner to join Jack and Craig in leading the Globe to future growth.” O’Brien echoed the sentiment, saying: “I couldn’t be more thrilled with the choice of our new executive director. Lou Spisto and I connect on so many levels — from his artistic integrity to his understanding of the complex needs of a major producing organization. I’m looking forward to working with him in partnership to shape the future of this glorious institution.”

Spisto was chosen by a search committee led by Sue Major. He succeeds Garet B. Clark, who has been serving as interim managing director since February 2002 and is now retired.
