Call the Children Home Continues Performances Following Cancellations Last Week

Performances of the new Off-Broadway musical Call the Children Home at Primary Stages will continue through this weekend after two shows had to be canceled last week.

According a spokesman for Primary Stages, the husband of Tamara Tunie — one of the show’s stars — “went in for emergency surgery. His condition was very serious at one point and she had to be with him. Unfortunately, we don’t have understudies because we’re a small, non-profit theater.” As a result, performances last Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon had to be canceled. But, the spokesman told TheaterMania, “As far as we know, [Tunie’s husband] is now doing much better and we hope to finish the run with no more interruptions. We were able to reschedule our subscribers who had tickets for the canceled performances.”

The show, with music and lyrics by Mildred Kayden and a book by Thomas Babe, also stars Christiane Noll and Sean McDermott along with Eugene Fleming, Julian Gamble, Angela Robinson, Sophia Salguero, and Caesar Samayoa. Set in New Orleans in the early 1900s, the musical concerns a mystery that unfolds at the establishment of “a businesswoman with a haunted past and an uncertain future.”
