Phoenix Theatre Ensemble's 10th-anniversary season is in full swing. Its inaugural production, George Bernard Shaw's Don Juan in Hell, which began performances September 18, is adding an extra week of performances, extending its original September 29 closing date to October 6.

Don Juan in Hell is a dream sequence taken from Act 3 of Shaw's larger four-act play Man and Superman. Three characters from Mozart's Don Giovanni (Don Juan, Doña Ana, and the statue of the Commendatore, Ana's father) meet the Devil in Hell and engage in various philosophical debates. Performances are being held at Paradise Factory.

PTE will then move to the The Wild Project for its spring season. Kevin Confoy will direct Dogg's Hamlet, Cahoot's Macbeth, two bard-inspired Tom Stoppard plays, written to be performed together. Dogg's Hamlet follows an acting company as it prepares to perform Hamlet in "Dogg," its original language, which comprises English words but with different meanings. Cahoot's Macbeth tells the story of a renegade acting troupe that stages a secret performance of Macbeth. The two Stoppard works will play in repertory with Randy Neale's comic drama The Fool's Lear, which explores the relationship of Lear and his fool between the scenes of the Shakespearean tragedy.
