Craig Bierko, who was set to join the company of Broadway’s Matilda The Musical on September 3 but was forced to sit out due to a shoulder injury, will officially join the production at the Shubert Theatre beginning tonight, September 17. The Tony Award nominee takes on the role of Crunchem Hall’s evil headmistress, Miss Trunchbull.

Bierko received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for his performance as Harold Hill in The Music Man. He has also been seen in Thou Shalt Not, Guys and Dolls, Standing on Ceremony, Company, and his viral internet talk show, Bathing With Bierko.

The musical, which originated in London, is based on the beloved children’s novel by Roald Dahl. It features a score by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly and stars four young leading young ladies: Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon, and Milly Shapiro, all of whom share the title role. Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage) directs.
