Lead casting has been announced for the upcoming Broadway musical adaptation of the cult-favorite film Rocky. Drama Desk Award-nominated Broadway veteran Andy Karl (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Jersey Boys) will take on the title role. Margo Seibert will make her Broadway debut in the role of Rocky’s love, Adrian.

The creative team for Rocky includes Ragtime composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, as well as Annie librettist Thomas Meehan. Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher) is set to direct the production, which began life under his helm this past year in Germany. Sylvester Stallone, who created the role of Rocky in the film franchise, serves as a producer on the musical.

Rocky will play Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre, the current home of Mamma Mia, which is set to relocate to the Broadhurst Theatre this fall. Further casting is expected for the musical, which will begin performances February 11, for an opening on March 13.
