Wayne Knight to Play Santa in Broadway’s Elf

Wayne Knight will take on the pivotal role of Santa Claus in the Broadway production of Elf, which makes a return holiday engagement at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, November 9-January 6.

Knight is best known for his television work, including playing Newman on the Emmy Award-winning Seinfeld, and his current starring role in TV Land’s The Exes. The actor’s theater credits include Measure for Pleasure Off-Broadway, and Encores’ Girl Crazy.

Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs the musical, which is based on the 2003 New Line Cinema film and features a score by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, and a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

As previously reported, original Broadway cast members Beth Leavel, Mark Jacoby, Valerie Wright, and Michael Mandell will return for this new Broadway engagement, with Adam Heller also part of the cast.

The central role of Buddy and his love interest, Jovie, have not yet been revealed.

The production features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, hair & wig design by Josh Marquette, and projection design by Zachary Borovay.
