NBC has begun development on a new single-camera comedy based on Leslye Headland‘s play Assistance, according to Deadline.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will executive produce, along with Jessica Elbaum and Owen Burke of their Gary Sanchez Productions.

Assistance will follow Nora, an idealistic assistant who struggles to please her powerful, obnoxious boss and keep her life intact.

The stage version of Assistance ran at Playwrights Horizons in February and March. Directed by Trip Cullman, it starred Michael Esper and Virginia Kull, with Sue Jean Kim, Lucas Near-Verbrugghe, Amy Rosoff, and Bobby Steggart.

Headland is also the author of the stage and screen versions of Bachelorette, as well as the upcoming remake of About Last Night.
