Jessica Chastain, Bill Heck, Lorenzo Pisoni at Signature Theatre's Train Driver Opening

By New York City

On Sunday, September 9, Signature Theatre's production of The Train Driver opened at the company's Pershing Square Signature Center, where it will run through September 23. This is the final production in the Residency One: Athol Fugard Series.

Opening night guests included Jessica Chastain, Linda Emond, David Harbour, Bill Heck, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Maggie Lacey, Nellie McKay, Kate Mulgrew, and Tom Nelis.

Based on a true story, the play centers on Roelf (played by Ritchie Coster), a train driver, who has spent weeks searching for the identities of a mother and child he unintentionally killed with his train. After a fruitless journey through shanty towns, he encounters an old gravedigger named Simon (played by Leon Addison Brown) who helps the desperate man unburden his conscience.
