Tony Award-winner Cynthia Nixon will play poet Emily Dickinson in A Quiet Passion, a new film written and directed by Terence Davies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will trace Dickinson’s life from schoolgirl to tortured recluse, who only became recognized as one of America’s leading poets of all time after her death. Sol Papadopoulos and Ray Boulter of Hurricane Films will produce the work.

Nixon was most recently seen on Broadway in Manhattan Theatre Club’s revival of Wit. She won a Tony for the organization’s production of Rabbit Hole. Her stage credits also include The Women, Hurlyburly, Angels in America, The Real Thing, The Heidi Chronicles, and many others. She is also known for her performance as Miranda Hobbes on the HBO comedy Sex and the City and its subsequent films.
