The Australian production of Lincoln Center Theater’s South Pacific, directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher, has been taped for future release on DVD, according to the website AussieTheatre. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is currently playing at the Sydney Opera House, before moving to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre.

The recording comes with the permission of The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization and Oscar Hammerstein’s grandson, the article quotes Opera Enterprises General Manager Alex Budd as saying.

South Pacific stars Lisa McCune as Nellie Forbush, Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Emile De Becque, Eddie Perfect as Luther Billis, Kate Ceberano as Bloody Mary, Daniel Koek as Lieutenant Cable, and Celina Yuen as Liat. The musical features choreography by Christopher Gatelli, scenic design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder, and sound design by Scott Lehrer. Neil Rutherford serves as associate director, with Andrew Greene as the Australian musical director.

Broadway’s revival of South Pacific ran for two years and won 7 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. The production was later broadcast on PBS’ Live from Lincoln Center.
