Rita Gardner to Offer Try to Remember at the Metropolitan Room

Rita Gardner will bring her new show Try to Remember: A Look Back at Off-Broadway to the Metropolitan Room for a five-performance engagement, running September 9-18. Barry Kleinbort will direct the piece, which will have musical direction by Alex Rybeck and musical staging by Pamela Sousa.

The show, which has additional dialogue by Ken Friedman, is retrospective of songs by Kurt Weill, Stephen Schwartz, Jerry Herman, Marvin Hamlisch, Marc Blitzstein, and Jacques Brel, as well as the songwriting team Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, from off-Broadway shows.


Gardner originated the role of Luisa in Jones and Schmidt’s The Fantasticks. Among her many other theater credits are A Family Affair, Ben Franklin in Paris, 1776, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, The Wedding Singer, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, and Steel Magnolias.
