Signature Theatre Company, under the leadership of Founding Artistic Director James Houghton, welcomed guests to its new home, the Frank Gehry-designed Signature Center, for a press conference to announce their 2011-2012 season on Wednesday, September 28. The building spans an entire city block at 42nd Street between Dyer and 10th Avenue, and is expected to open January 31, 2012.
Among the artists who came out for Signature’s press conference — many donning protective headgear as the space is still under construction — are Edward Albee, Annie Baker, Yaya Da Costa, Michael Greif, Katori Hall, Tony Kushner, Kate Mulgrew, Edward Norton, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Regina Taylor, Leslie Uggams, and Michael Urie.
The company’s “Residency One” series will be devoted to the works of Athol Fugard, while Signature’s “Legacy Program” will feature a new work by Edward Albee and the company’s “Residency Five” program will feature works by Katori Hall, Will Eno, and Kenneth Lonergan.
