Joel Rooks will star as George Burns in an Off-Broadway production of Say Goodnight Gracie: The Life, Laughter & Love of George Burns and Gracie Allen, which will play St. Luke’s Playhouse, beginning October 14, with an opening on October 30. William I. Franzblau will direct.

Written by Rupert Holmes, the piece takes audiences on a guided tour through an American century told through the eyes of George Burns who savored each day from his impoverished youth on the lower East side, to his career in Vaudeville, his marriage to Gracie Allen, their rise to success on stage, screen, radio and TV, and finally George’s “second time around. Didi Conn supplies the pre-recorded voice of Gracie Allen.

Rooks understudied Frank Gorshin during the Broadway run of Say Goodnight Gracie starred in the show’s national tour. Additional Broadway credits include The Royal Family, Taller Than A Dwarf, The Tenth Man and The Sisters Rosensweig.
