Fabio Luisi to Replace James Levine as Conductor for Fall Metropolitan Opera Performances

Fabio Luisi will replace James Levine, who underwent emergency surgery last week after injuring his veterbrae in an accident on Vermont, as the conductor for a series of fall performances this season.


Levine, who had been expected to return to the Met this fall, was successfully recuperating from another back surgery when the accident happened while he was on vacation in Vermont. He is the Metropoltian Opera’s Music Director.


Luisi, who is now the Principal Conductor of the Metropolitan, will conduct the first five performance of the Met’s new production of , premiering October 13), the MET Orchestra concert at Carnegie Hall on October 16, and the October 27 and November 5 performances of Wagner’s Siegfried.


Louis Langrée will conduct the remaining four performances of Don Giovanni on October 31, November 3, 7, and 11, while Derrick Inouye will conduct Siegfried on November 1.
