At the gala, playwright Sam Shepard will receive the first annual Ellen Stewart Award. The honor, named for the late founder and artistic director of the theater, recognizes an artist who challenges conventional theatrical boundaries and expands audiences' understanding of human potential.

In addition to the award ceremony, the evening will feature selections from plays by Wallace Shawn, Harvey Fierstein, Jackie Curtis and Taylor Mac.

Among the artists schedule to participate in the event are Shawn and Mac, along with Estelle Parsons, John Kelly, Justin Bond, Scott Wittman, Split Britches, and Elizabeth Swados. Additional celebrity performers will be announced shortly.
