Amrican Lyric Theatre Announces 2011-2012 Season

American Lyric Theater (ALT) has announced its 2011-2012 season of public programming.

The group’s first offering will be Why Opera?, a roundtable discussion to be held on October 30 at the company’s facility at 330 Seventh Avenue. The program will explore the subjects that are inspiring operatic writers today. Among the artists scheduled to participate in the conversation are Ricky Ian Gordon, Stephen Karam, Michael Korie, Nico Muhly, and Stephen Wallace. Cori Ellison will moderate the panel.

The ALT season will also include The Art of the Aria With Mark Adamo (December 18), a public master classic led by composer/librettist Adamo; Dramatizing History with Anthony Davis (February 26), a concert featuring selections from works that bring historical events to the stage; and The Poe Project, a concert reading of three one-act operas based on Edgar Allan Poe’s works by Jeff Myers and Quincy Long; Jay Anthony Gach and Royce Vavrek; and Patrick Soluri and Debobah Brevoort, and featuring Audrey Babcock, Matt Boehler, Christopher Burchett, Chad A. Johnson, Caroline Worra, and Camille Zamora.

In addition, ALT will offer The Living Libretto on April 29. The event will be a a libretto reading of four new one-act operas by librettists Magda Bogin, Stephanie Fleischmann, David Johnston, and Kate Light, and composers Jeremy Howard Beck, Alla Borzova, Theo Popov, and Jeffrey Dennis Smith, all of which will be presented in the company’s final offering for the year, Opera in Eden, to be offered on June 25 at Symphony Space.
